How many millions of American Youths are not receiving their High School Diplomas because our Educational Standards have become to difficult for to many students? For the Students not receiving their Diploma's the future is very grim for many. The Sunday PARADE Magazine had an Article about a year ago, "WHY DO THEY HAVE TO MAKE EDUCATION SO DIFFICULT?" We the people have to take action!
The Educational System knows by the time a Student is a Sophomore if he or she will receive a High School Diploma. For those not graduating I suggest that a seperate Educational Program be set up for males and females. An Educational Program that will ensure them an Education where they can obtain satisfactory employment right after High School.
MALES: Plumbing Sheetrocking Applying Mud Operation of Tools & Tool Safety How to apply different types of Roofing How to Measure and cut Steel Roofing & Siding Installing Plumbing Fixtures Cabinet Installation Measuring Shimming and screwing into place Build a house and give the Students first hand experience. ANY OTHER IDEAS ARE WELCOME!
FEMALES: Home Economics Canning, Cooking, Measuring Sewing by hand and by Machine Types of hems, seams and buttonholes Making change How to run a Cash Register Computer Skills Competency at Key Boarding Multi line Phones Filing and numerous Secretarial Skills ANY OTHER IDEAS ARE WELCOME!
This is a National Project that needs Brainstorming. Think of the millions that could be kept off from Welfare. When many of these Teenagers get out of High School they are lost. Without a Diploma or Skills they are frequently helpless. This is a project that needs meditation and action should be taken. I have seen to many of these kids commit suicide. Many of these kids will be our future drug dealers and will keep our Prisons running efficiently! We need caring Adults to take actions on some of these issues.
Write, Talk, Make Speech's GET INVOLVED! One voice is not enough!

Isn't this kind of a throwback to the days when "science" believed in genetically profiling the "bad" ones and isolating them into a lesser class, or even worse, targetting them for elmination. Sounds like someone is a fan of Margaret Sanger (look her up if you don't know who she is - she founded Planned Parenthood as a racist eugenics tool to elminate inner city blacks).

Everyone has a place in the world. However, the job suggestions for males and females made me giggle even though I know they were just suggestions. How about one list instead of the 50's stlye male and female "roles". Most females who are working mothers already do all of those things listed under the "female" list in addition to working 40-50 hours a week :)

The main problem seems to be the requirements for Mathematics. Yes, Math is very important! If your not going into the Medical or Pharmaceutical fields, to name a few, the higher math is not that important! I understand that Millions of Student's are not graduating because of the new Graduation Standards. We are the one's that have to speak up for these Students who could become our newest Prison Residents, Drug Dealers or Prostitutes. Those with knowledge are the one's that need to take action. Is it not those Student's without Diploma's that are filling up our Prison's? Let's not place a demise on Democrat's!

No, not all girls know homemaking skills. Especially females from underprivileged families. In the State in which I live, SEX is the big subject for these students. Sex isn't the basis for setting up a home and providing for a family.

I was a B student throughtout school until about college, then I actually saw what I had to do to graduate and figured out what I wanted to do with my life. I think if I had the opportunity to go back to Calvert high, I would definately choose a Career center path...and pick a Trade, like Plumbing..since They make rediculous amounts of money and are in demand....college degrees don't always guarantee wealth.
As for the new graduation standards, I like them..there about on par with the G.E.D standards, which have always been higher than the regular method.

Where I work I have seen over and over again the person with a high school diploma or has obtained a high school equivalency degree out perform college graduates and even become their supervisors. The list of jobs presented in "A Modern Educational System" assumes a lot about a persons capabilities based on their teenage years. The life a person takes many turns and for young people a few years often shows a whole different person. Also keep in mind the school system is overwhelmed with classes that provide little benefit. Students often joke how they study for a test and proceed to forget what they had to memorize---
the largest lake in France, the periodic table, and so on. Things you can look up on the internet,if you ever need to know them. The school system likes conformity more than free thinking. I am not saying that education is not important but it is not the only measure of a persons abilities. Saying that "you went to college it made you smarter" is as logical as saying you played basketball it made you taller".
