Lusby man faces sex charges
MARTY MADDEN - Calvert Independent Associate Editor
LUSBY, MD - An undercover operation initiated by St. Mary’s County authorities in March, has resulted in the arrest of a Calvert County man, police said.

According to a report from the St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI), the arrest of the suspect, identified as Scott Gerald Hunter, 44 of Lusby, was made during the week of May 18. Hunter’s arrest was the result of an investigation by BCI’s Vice Narcotics Division.

Hunter was charged with attempted second-degree sexual offense and attempted perverted practice.

“Additional charges are pending presentation to the St. Mary’s County Grand Jury,” the BCI press release stated.

Hunter was being held on $25,000 bond.

Unknown to Hunter at the time, he had begun an on-line conversation with an undercover detective through the Craigslist web site. Police said the conversation was in regards to “sexual activity and possibly meeting. The conversation changed considerably when the suspect began inquiring as to what access the undercover detective had to ‘young boys.’ The suspect requested sex with the undercover detective’s fictitious male nephew who was believed to be 11 years of age.”

Hunter was arrested when he arrived at a location where he and the undercover officer had agreed to meet.

St. Mary’s authorities began conducting a “prostitution operation” after a man responded to an on-line proposition and ended up beaten and robbed after being lured to a location in St. Mary’s. Six arrests from the sting were made during March. Hunter was one of three people arrested in the latest operation.
