HARWOOD, MD - A Calvert County woman sustained serious injuries June 17, as a result of a head-on collision on Route 2 (Solomons Island Road) in Harwood, police reported.

According to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, the two-vehicle accident occurred at approximately 8:34 a.m. near Route 2’s intersection with Polling House Road.

The investigating officer, Pfc. Jon Mahaffee, reported that a 1999 Toyota Camry driven by Rebecca Gail Crocker, 56 of Chesapeake Beach, was traveling northbound on Solomons Island Road. “For unknown reasons, the Toyota drifted from the northbound lane across the double yellow line, into the southbound lane,” Mahaffee stated.

The Camry drove directly into the path of a 2006 Chevrolet van owned by Vintage Security Company and driven by Cagney Erin Lafferty, 23 of Catonsville.

“The Chevrolet was unable to avoid the oncoming Toyota and subsequently struck the Toyota head on,” stated Mahaffee.

Crocker was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma. She suffered multiple upper and lower body injuries and was reported in critical condition.

Lafferty sustained upper and lower body injuries.

According to Mahaffee, the investigation is continuing.
