MARTY MADDEN - Calvert Independent Associate Editor
LUSBY, MD - Three people were flown to Washington, DC area hospitals Feb. 12 following a multi-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 2/4 and Cove Point Road in Lusby, police said.

According to an accident report filed by the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, the accident, which involved three vehicles, occurred at 11:13 a.m.

A vehicle traveling southbound on Route 2/4 was making a left turn onto Cove Point Road when it crossed into the path of a 2002 GMC truck traveling northbound on Route 2/4, Deputy Chris McDonough stated in the report. The turning vehicle then struck a 1986 Chevrolet truck that was westbound on Cove Point Road.

The occupants of the vehicle attempting to make the left turn, all from Lusby, were flown to Washington Hospital Center and Prince George’s Hospital. Helicopters from Medstar and the U.S. Park Police were dispatched to the scene. Volunteers from Solomons and St. Leonard were dispatched to the accident site and extricated the injured motorists.

According to Lt. Steven Jones of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, none of the injuries were life-threatening.
