CHESAPEAKE BEACH, MD - On February 21 at 3:21 p.m. deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Blockbuster Video located at 7929 Bayside Road in Chesapeake Beach for a reported robbery. While responding to the scene, deputies learned that a second robbery had just taken place at the Dairy Freeze located at 8831 Chesapeake Avenue in North Beach.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the same suspect committed both robberies. In each instance the suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Deputies arrived on scene of the Dairy Freeze robbery within seconds of it occurring and began to canvass the area in search of the suspect. Citizens in the area of the robbery provided deputies with a vehicle description associated with the suspect.
DFC Joseph Windsor observed the vehicle in question and affected a traffic stop in the area of 1st Street and David Lane in North Beach. The driver of the vehicle was later identified as Danny Franklin Jones, 54, of no fixed address. Witnesses positively identified Jones as the suspect who robbed both Dairy Freeze and Blockbuster Video.
In addition, Jones was identified by eyewitnesses as the suspect who robbed the Safeway in Dunkirk of February 18.
Jones is currently being held at the Calvert County Detention Center on charges of two counts of robbery, two counts of second degree assault and two counts of theft.
TFC Myles Roy of MSP, a member of the Calvert Investigative Team, has applied for charges through the District Court Commissioner for the robbery at Safeway. Jones will be served with those charges upon issuance from the court.
