LUSBY, MD - On March 10 at approximately 2:00 a.m. a shooting on Bowie Trail in the Chesapeake Ranch Club was reported to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office. DFC James Bell arrived on the scene and that a double-shooting had occurred after the collission of two vehicles. Further investigation by Det. M. Mudd of the C.I.T. revealed Justin Gibson, 19, of Lusby, had been shot in the hand and Kevin Accord, 17, also of Lusby had been shot in the head. Although serious, it appears that the injuries are non-life threatening.
According to Det. Mudd, an on-going dispute between rival street gangs resulted in an altercation that lead to two vehicles containing gang members colliding at the intersection of Bowie Trail and Bowie Court. The two vehicles were each driving at a high rate of speed toward each other when they collided. A suspect in the one of the vehicles, a white SUV, produced a small caliber handgun and fired multiple shots at the other vehicle involved, striking the two victims who were still seated in the car.
The suspects in the white SUV were found on Six Gun Circle by Dep. Mark Fitzgerald and Dep. Jeffrey Denton. At that time, the suspects were advising that they were the victims. According to the suspects, a third and fourth vehicle, said to be associated with a gang, were involved and had been firing shots at the suspects, however, at this time, there is no evidence to support this claim. The resulting investigation led to the discovery of evidence that showed that the suspects were in fact the perpetrators of the shooting and after interviews of the three suspects, further evidence was obtained which led to them being charged.
Marquis Angelo Glover,16, Aris Xavier Curtis, 19, and Trevon Nakeem Benjamin,17, all of Lusby were arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder, first degree assault, and associated weapon violation offenses. This crime appears to be a gang related shooting. Search warrants were executed on the afternoon of March 10 where several handguns and further evidence was recovered.
The State’s Attorney’s Office indicates the juveniles will be charged as adults.
Recently, the on-going feud between rival gangs, has resulted in multiple arrests relating to a prior assault. Several other on-going investigations are continuing involving these two rival gang members to include burglaries, assaults, armed robberies and drug and firearm violations.
