Huntingtown man arrested for animal cruelty

HUNTINGTOWN, MD - On July 11, 2010 at 7:09 p.m., Trooper First Class Laziuck responded to Cecil Lane in Huntingtown for a reported domestic argument. Investigation revealed that the homeowner, Ronald Lee Patterson, 55yrs of age, was intoxicated and was complaining that their dog smelled and needed a bath. Patterson took the 1 year old Cocker Spaniel in a bathroom and allegedly drowned the dog, according to family members. Patterson then put the dog in a trash bag and buried it in the woods behind their residence. Patterson admitted to Troopers that he drowned the dog and was arrested. Calvert County Animal Control responded to the residence and took possession of the dog which was sent to an animal hospital to determine the exact cause of death. Patterson was incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center.
