OWINGS, MD - On July 22, 2010 at approximately 1635 hours (4:35PM) members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau and Crash Reconstruction Team (CRT) responded to the intersection of West Mt. Harmony Road and Grantham Road, Owings, Maryland 20736 for a report of a serious motor vehicle collision involving two passenger vehicles.
The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
The collision was a t-bone type and occurred in the east bound lane of West Mt. Harmony Road just east of Grantham Road.
A black 2007 Ford Fusion, operated by Christine Elizabeth Amatucci, a 32 year old female a resident of Chesapeake Beach, MD, was traveling west on West Mt. Harmony Road. As the Ford began to enter the right curve in the roadway just prior to Grantham Road the vehicle’s right tires left the roadway. In an attempt to correct the path of travel the driver steered to the left and over-corrected entering the east bound lane of West Mt. Harmony Road. In an attempt to correct again the driver turned the steering wheel to the right, which put the Ford Fusion into a slide with the leading edge of the vehicle being the left side. Traveling east on West Mt. Harmony Road was a red 2000 Chevrolet Venture minivan, operated by Rebecca Diane Feeney, a 53 year old female a resident of Chesapeake Beach, MD. The Chevrolet was also occupied by a 17 year old male and 15 year old female. The Chevrolet collided with the Ford in a t-bone type of collision as the Ford was traveling sideways in a westerly direction in the east bound lane. The Ford sustained damage to the left side of the vehicle. The Chevrolet sustained damage to the front end. The speed was a factor that contributed to this collision.
Christine Elizabeth Amatucci, the operator of the Ford Fusion, suffered mortal trauma during the collision and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Rebecca Diane Feeney, the operator of the Chevrolet Venture, and the 17 year old male were transported to Prince George’s Shock Trauma via US Park Police Eagle One. Both are listed in serious, but stable condition at the time of the press release. The 15 year old female was transported to Baltimore Shock trauma via Maryland State Police Trooper 7. She is listed in serious, but stable condition at the time of the press release.
