Ok, so I looked at the calendar and realized that the year is almost half over. How does this happen? Wish I knew. I am suspect that the Earth is spinning just a tad faster every year and our days are getting slightly shorter and therefore the year ends sooner. Or, maybe it’s just aging and the fact that I can no longer remember what happened yesterday, sometimes even this morning that veils my reality and tricks me into thinking time is flying by.
In January we look forward to February and anxiously await the prognostication of some illustrious ground hog. “How much more winter? I want Spring!” Then it comes, with all the rain and then the rainbows and the flowers. But the kids are screaming for SUMMER and before you know it, Spring is history and Fall is upon us and the reappearance of Old Man Time! (Am I rushing you? Sorry.)
But, as fate would have it, June brings us The First Annual Maryland Wine Week! Now that’s worth waiting for. It is a statewide cooperation between local restaurants, retailers, local ingredients and wine running from June 3-12. Come on JUNE!
Now, the reality is that this celebration actually started early, I noticed, as I worked at Columbia’s Wine in the Woods for Running Hare Vineyard (one of Calvert County’s 5 wineries). People were ready to celebrate! In fact, they weren’t just ready, they were doing it! It may have been brought on by the impending doom we were facing. And, what better way to leave the planet than in a goblet shaped chariot? However, I am certain that the Sunday morning realization that not only were many hung over, but yet still here, resulted in a collective sigh of
“Uh oh!” But that’s okay because June is almost here.
Let’s get through Maryland Wine Week and then we can look forward to the rest of the year.
