Boot-leg Restaurants
Bryan M
The past couple of years have brought Calvert County a few new restaurants. "Mexico" was an instant hit, and "La Tolteca" may be soon to follow. The only problem is that these are Rip-offs of REAL restaurant chains. Mexico is a Richmond, Va based chain. The Calvert County location is not legitimate, but a bad copy. The same applies to La Tolteca which is a Delaware based chain of Latin American cuisine. It wont be long long before someone catches on. And these "Boot-legged" restaurants should not be allowed to have Business Licenses in Calvert County.

THE REAL PROBLEM I HAVE IS THAT THESE TYPES OF RESTAURANTS MAY CREATE A BUZZ WHEN THEY FIRST OPEN THEN AS TIME GOES BY THEY ONLY APPEAL TO A SELECT FEW. TO ME THERE ARE TOO MANY PLACES SERVING QUESTIONABLE CHINESE FOOD, BORING MCDONALD'S FOOD OR DRY FRIED CHICKEN. THEN USUALLY WHEN SOME PLACE NEW (AND OFTEN UNHEARD OF) OPENS IT IS A DISGUSTING FLOP. NOT TO MENTION THE BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. IT ALL LEAVES A BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH.

Coming from Richmond, we were very excited to see the Mexico restaurant here in our new home. For good food of the Mexican variety that won't cost you an arm and a leg, this is definately a place to consider. The people that opened here are actually people from the Mechanicsville restaurant, so its not like they just like the restaurant and decide to open one up here. The Richmond restaurants are family owned and the one up here is just like the ones we went to there. Good food, cheap prices. Calvert is definately lax in the restaurant department, we could use a few more around!

I have never heard of any "Mexico" restaurant chain. Doesn't really matter, I like this restaurant - I've tried Taco Bell, Salsaritas, La Tolteca and Mexico and for my money, Mexico is easily the best place to go if you want a good meal for a good price and also impressive and friendly service. The food has always been piping hot and fresh when I've been there.

It is true there is a Delaware chain of "La Toltecas", however the people who opened the one in PF also have restaurants in Salisbury,MD., Waldorf and Williamsburg,VA. As for the Mexico restaurant, they also have one in Waldorf (same people). The food at either of these beats the pants off Taco Bell.

Now we have one in Lusby! Haven't been yet, but another Mexican restaurant is coming directly across the street (La Tolteca? not sure).
What will become of Guido's?
