Fire damages home in Lusby, displaces occupants
MARTY MADDEN - Calvert Independent Associate Editor

A two-alarm fire at a home on Big Bear Lane in Lusby has displaced the family living in the dwelling, the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office reported.

The fire occurred May 4 and was initially reported at 11:43 a.m.

According to a report from Dfm. J.D. Rodeheaver, the fire originated on the kitchen stove. Food had been left unattended while cooking.

A total of 60 firefighters from Solomons, St. Leonard, Hollywood and Bay District responded to the fire. The firefighters brought the blaze under control in one hour.

The fire was reported by the owner, according to Rodeheaver. There were no injuries reported.

Damage to the structure and contents of the 24-foot by 48-foot, wood-frame, single-family home is estimated at $80,000.

The investigation was conducted by Dfm. Jeffrey Frye.

“The family has been displaced,” Rodeheaver stated. “It is unknown if they are being assisted by anyone at this time.”
