Dancing Dogs Perform for Twin Beaches Library
Lynn Franklin - Submitted Article
The Boogie Woogie BowWows of Chesapeake Bay -- the dog world's answer to Fred and Ginger -- will help the Twin Beaches Library kick off their Summer Reading Program with a rare local appearance on Saturday, June 7. The half-hour show begins at 2 p.m. at the Northeast Community Center in Chesapeake Beach.

The show marks the conclusion of the internationally acclaimed dance team's Spring Tour. The library show will include routines the BowWows recently performed on stage at Michigan's Dow Event Center Theatre.

"Our shows are geared to all ages," said BowWow member Joan Rose. "But for this program we've specifically selected routines that will appeal to children."

In one dance, Tucker, Joan's longhaired-dachshund dance partner, will ride his skateboard before trotting into a dachshund jive. During Lynn Franklin's paso doeble, standard poodle Sam will leap and canter while Lynn twirls a shiny cape. The four dance partners will also take the stage together in two presentations that includes a routine to "Star Wars."

In the grand finale, children will join the dogs on stage in a parade around the gym. The BowWows will then lead the parade from the Community Center back to the library, where the dogs will greet the children and hand out special BowWow bookmarks to each child reader.

"We're especially excited to be helping the library kick off their Summer Reading Program," Joan said. "The library offers wonderful programs for the community and we're pleased to be able to support the librarians' efforts."

"Joan and I have always been big readers," Franklin added. "So we like the idea of showing children how much fun reading can be."

The Boogie Woogie BowWows have appeared at theaters, community events and dog shows throughout the U.S. including the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. They've been invited to appear in England and were featured in Reader's Digest, Dog World, The Washington Post and Inside Edition.
