Thefts from cars increase in Calvert
Chester Bergen - Senior Staff Reporter
PRINCE FREDERICK, MD -  It appears that a crime wave has taken hold in Calvert County.  Over the past month, several entire neighborhoods have been targeted by what is assumed to be a group of thieves who look for unlocked vehicles to quickly rummage though and steal anything electronic.  At least 3 neighborhoods in northern Calvert have reported that during the night, unknown thieves came though and searched through any unlocked vehicles, taking any cash they could find and also electronic device including cell phones, laptops, bluetooth devices, etc.

A police source, when asked, suspected local juveniles.

One victim of the thefts, who wanted to remain anonymous, commented, "What juveniles are organized enough to hit 20 or thirty houses in a single night in 2 different neighhborhoods?  If these are juveniles, then they have someone organizing them that is connected to a buyer."

Most recently, according to a press release from the Calvert County Sheriff's Office,  a victim on Carla Drive in Huntingtown had his HP Compaq Turion laptop computer worth $1100, a Sony PSP portable game player worth $200 and two games for the player valued at $30 stolen from his unlocked car. The victim also stated that another vehicle parked in his driveway appeared to have been rummaged through but nothing was taken.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DFC Wood at 410-535-2800.
