LUSBY, MD - On Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at approximately 9:00 AM, a personal injury crash involving two vehicles occurred on northbound MD Rt. 2-4 at the north entrance to H. G. Trueman Road, Lusby, Calvert County, Maryland.

 

Preliminary investigation revealed that Jody M. Purcarey (34 of Lusby, MD) was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of MD Rt. 2-4 and enter H. G. Trueman Road. She was operating a 2004 Chevrolet Aveo LS sedan and her 8 year old daughter and 14 months old son were passengers properly restrained in the back seat. Ms. Purcarey failed to yield to a 2006 Ford Freestyle SUV which was traveling north on MD Rt. 2-4 approaching this intersection.

 

Ms. Anna M. Borders (67 of Prince Frederick, MD) was operating the Ford SUV. Ms. Borders braked but was unable to avoid the Chevrolet as it crossed in front of her. The Ford struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet. The impact caused the Chevrolet to spin clock-wise several times and pushed it onto the right roadside where it overturned and came to a final rest against a guardrail.

 

The Ford, upon impact, remained upright, pivoted 180 degrees then came to a final rest near the Chevrolet. Ms. Purcarey had to be extricated from her Chevrolet but her injuries were not life threatening. Her children suffered no significant injuries due to the proper use of seat belts and/or child restraints. However, all occupants of the Chevrolet were medi-evaced due to the type of impact and the dynamics of the crash.

 

The children were transported by Eagle 1 to Children’s Hospital and Ms. Purcarey was transported by Trooper 2 to Med-Star. Ms. Borders was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

 

Numerous police personnel from the Maryland State Police and the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded. In addition, Emergency Medical Service personnel from the Solomons, St. Leonard & Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Departments and/or Rescue Squads, Calvert Advanced Life Support (CALS). The Maryland State Police and U.S. Park Police Aviation Divisions also responded. The northbound and southbound traffic on MD Rt. 2-4 was re-routed via Pardoe Road for approximately 1 hour to safeguard the accident scene and further the investigation.
